If you take away the Jewish contribution to Christianity, there would be no Christianity. Judaism does not need Christianity to explain its existence; Christianity, however, cannot explain its existence without Judaism.
We simply need to focus on drawing near to God and his purpose for our lives. This is how we can best resist the devil. When he sees us drawing closer and closer to God, when he watches as our faith muscles grow bigger and stronger, he's forced to accept defeat.
Sometimes I think we spend a lot of time fleeing from the devil, when we really need to stand our ground. The Bible doesn't teach us to flee from the devil; it teaches us to draw near to God, to resist the devil, so he will flee from you. We don't need to worry about running away from the devil and trying to hide from him.
We all have a need for love and acceptance; it is a universal human need.. With the commercialism of Christmas it’s easy to forget what is really important. So in these very busy times when nerves tend to be frayed and the pressure of perfection wants to reign, may we be reminded to give the best gifts to the people we love; the gifts that flow from God’s heart of love for us. They are timeless and everlasting.
