The effective Christians of history have been men and women of great personal discipline. The connection between the words disciple and discipline is obvious. To be a true, effective disciple of Christ we must seek to discipline our lives and endeavor to walk even as He walked.
History is going somewhere. And we know full well that He who does all things well will bring beauty from the ashes of world chaos. A new world is being born. A new social order will emerge when Christ comes back. A fabulous future is on the way.
Some governments have vast armies and weapons with which to confront other nations or resist their attacks, but only the Christian church has the 'military hardware' to intervene in the spiritual realm in the heavenlies. As we have seen in Daniel's case, the one who wins in the heavenlies ultimately determines the course of history.
Surely this account is one among countless indications that the Bible is not a work of merely human authorship. Moses is generally accepted as the author of the creation record. But apart from supernatural inspiration, he would never have dared to open human history with a scene of such amazing intimacy-first between God and man, and then between man and woman.
